FORM ENHANCEMENTS

Protective Orders
As of June 1, there are now mandatory forms for protective orders with strict formatting and text requirements. TXdocs has replaced the following forms in the Family Law Library:
  • Application for Protective Order;
  • Affidavit or Declaration;
  • Temporary Ex Parte Protective Order; and
  • Final Protective Order.
These are the same forms issued by the Office of Court Administration ("OCA"), but with additional optional text and automatic edits for attorneys who are filing on behalf of an applicant. Our Director of Content Development spoke with the OCA's Domestic Violence Training Attorney to ensure that the forms now available in TXdocs adhere to the new requirements and effectively achieve their intended purposes.

Rights and Duties Chart
We've included in our software a new PDF to print out for your clients showing the allocation of rights and duties for JMCs. This can also be very useful during mediations and while working out agreements. You can assemble this chart with your case in chapter 12 of Longino's Family Law, or select the option to print the form for your client during assembly of temporary and final orders for divorce, SAPCR, and modification. You can also access this PDF here or below.

WEBINAR - EFFECTIVE TIME TRACKING AND BILLING WITH TXDOCS

On May 30 we hosted a webinar on  Effective Time Tracking and Billing with TXdocs. This course taught attorneys and their staff how to effectively track and bill their time using TXdocsPlus. We covered how to create time slips and statements, as well as the settings you can use to tailor TXdocs to your practice. We also discussed reporting on billing, how to send statements by email, and how to work with IOLTA accounts.

FEATURE HIGHLIGHT: VIEWING CASES SHARED WITH OPPOSING COUNSEL

Picture this: opposing counsel calls. You've been trying to connect with them all week. You hang up the phone, only to realize an hour later you need to speak with them on ANOTHER case. Now you have to get in touch with them all over again, when you could have just discussed all of the cases you share with them at once.

To avoid this, TXdocs allows TXdocsPlus users to quickly see all cases they share with an attorney. You can do this by going to the "Related Attorneys" tab in your Case Manager and then selecting "View Cases." This will generate a list of all of the cases you share with the opposing counsel of the selected case.

FORMZ UPDATE

Last month's release included 41 FormZ fulfillments. Among these were the addition of several new forms, including:

1. Application to Close Estate and Discharge Guardian (Guardianship);
2. Motion and Order to Appear in Court Viz Zoom (Civil Litigation); and
3. Notice of Conflicting Setting (Family).
As a refresher, "FormZ" (pronounced "form-zee") is what TXdocs calls our proprietary software to track subscriber requests for new forms, fixes, or improvements.

THANK YOU, JACOB!

We have a wonderful intern with us this summer, Jacob Crawford. Jacob is a student at the University of Texas at Austin, and he's considering attending law school upon graduation. Thanks for all of your hard work, Jacob! You've been a tremendous help already.

TIPS AND TRICKS

Can I change the look and feel of the Online Intake questionnaires?
YES! You can customize the Online Intake site with your logo and header file to give it a similar look as your firm's website. On the Online Intake tab, click "Request Client Information," and then select "Customize your site."

If a client sends payment for multiple cases, how can I easily allocate this payment between the cases?
In TXdocsPlus, just select the client in "Contacts Manager" and then click "Post a payment". A window will then allow you to select which of the client's cases - as well as how much per case - the payment is applied to.

DID YOU KNOW?

There are a surprising number of celebrities who attended law school. Among them are John Cleese (Monty Python), Geraldo Rivera, Ben Stein, Gerard Butler, Jerry Springer, Ozzie Nelson (Ozzie & Harriet), Jeff Cohen (Goonies), and John Saviano (The Wonder Years). Can you imagine having Jerry Springer as opposing counsel?!
