EVICTION LAWS CHANGING JANUARY 1

The 89th Texas Legislature passed Senate Bill 38, which includes amendments to Chapter 24 of the Texas Property Code taking effect January 1, 2026. This Bill reforms evictions in Texas by streamlining and clarifying the eviction process to protect due process rights and reinforce private property protections.
We are making several changes to forms in our library in accordance with SB 38, including:
We are making several changes to forms in our library in accordance with SB 38, including:
- Giving justice courts in the precinct where the property is located exclusive jurisdiction in eviction cases;
- Adding a new form: Notice to Pay Rent or Vacate, for tenants who have only missed one rent payment;
- Expanding the method of delivery of notices;
- Adding a new Motion for Summary Disposition; and
- Making changes to petitions, with more requirements for specific information.
As always, you can rest assured that all forms in the TXdocs library will be fully-compliant with SB 38 before the January 1st effective date. To view the full text of SB 38 click here or below.
It should be noted that the Texas Supreme Court has also issued several preliminary changes to the Texas Rules of Civil Procedure. We are keeping a close eye on these amendments and will ensure that all forms in the TXdocs forms library are compliant if and when the final amendments take effect.

TXDOCS CHRISTMAS PARTY

The TXdocs team and our loved ones came together on Saturday, December 6th at Oak Valley Vineyards in Garden Ridge, TX. We enjoyed good food, conversation, and fun as we celebrated a wonderful year together and looked forward to everything 2026 has in store.
We wish you and your loved ones a very Merry Christmas and hope that the holiday season surrounds you with good health, happiness, and love. Thank you for the work you do every day for your clients and communities. We're honored to help make your practice run more smoothly—this and every year.

YEAR END PRACTICE MANAGEMENT TIPS

Closing out your books at the end of the year is probably the least exciting part of the holiday season; however, it needs to be done. Fortunately, TXdocsPlus carries many billing features that can make this process as smooth as a symphony.
Along with generating statements for your clients, you may also run a library of billing reports to check the status and overall financial health of your firm in TXdocsPlus. We suggest running a Case Status report at the end of the year to view a detailed overview of case information such as clients with outstanding balances, trust balances, most recent payments, and more.
To help you end the season on a high note, we've created a simple two-step billing guide that you can use to wrap up 2025 and maintain accurate records through every month in 2026. To access this PDF click here or below.

NEW TRAINING AND ONBOARDING TOOL FOR YOUR STAFF

Last year TXdocs developed and launched a free course to teach users everything they need to know about using TXdocs to its fullest capabilities. We started by offering this course exclusively to law and paralegal school students, but we are now opening it up to all subscribers.
Firms can utilize this curriculum as a training tool for their staff, providing an easy way to ensure attorneys and support staff are maximizing the tools at their disposal. Individuals can also take the course to get a complete overview of the TXdocs document automation process, or they can simply pick and choose sections covering the topics on which they want additional information. To access this free curriculum click here or below.
We've also developed a TXdocs certification exam whereby test takers can prove their mastery of the TXdocs document automation platform. Those who pass the exam can list their certification on their resume and social media accounts, signaling to potential employers that they are proficient with TXdocs. We will also list the names of all certification recipients on our website. We want to extend our congratulations to our latest certificate recipient, Christina Ibarra of San Antonio College's paralegal studies program!
This exam is currently only available to law and paralegal students, but starting on December 20th it will be available to all TXdocs subscribers from right within TXdocs, in the Learning Center menu.

TEAM MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

JORDAN SCHOOLCRAFT
SENIOR CONTENT DEVELOPER
SENIOR CONTENT DEVELOPER
We've heard time and time again that our subscribers love when they call us and get to talk to our Senior Content Developer, Jordan Schoolcraft. Jordan is the longest tenured TXdocs employee other than our founder (his dad, Alan Schoolcraft). He's been an integral part of the TXdocs team for 12 1/2 years! Jordan is an expert on all things TXdocs and wears several hats within the organization.
Jordan's main role as a senior content developer has him coding rtf forms, Online Intake services, and PDF Acroforms, and figuring out how to accomplish complex tasks within TXdocs.
Jordan is also an occasional member of the service team, hosting subscriber training sessions, answering customer questions, and reaching out to subscribers who have made FormZ requests shortly after the release in which their requests were fulfilled.
Finally, Jordan has filled the important unofficial role of "Chief of Maintenance", responsible for office repairs including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other general maintenance tasks.
Jordan says "when I'm not striving to improve the quality of life of our beloved subscribers (you guys), I can be found working hard on the family ranch, coaching Little League softball, or solving escape rooms with my wife and kids." Jordan and his wife, Shyla, are expecting another baby in the spring.

THANK YOU TO OUR 10-YEAR SUBSCRIBERS!

We recently reached a major milestone: the 10th anniversary of the first TXdocs subscribers! When our founder, Alan Schoolcraft, started TXdocs 14 years ago, he did so in order to make things right after selling ProDoc to Thomson Reuters. Not happy with the direction ProDoc took after the sale, Mr. Schoolcraft was determined to once again offer a superior document automation software to Texas attorneys at an affordable price (even though it took four years of hard work before TXdocs was ready for public use).
We have 11 subscribers who have been with us since the very beginning. We want to send a heartfelt "thank you" to these firms for being such loyal customers over the past 10 years:

FORMZ UPDATE

In 2025 we received a lot of great feedback from our subscribers, including suggestions for new forms, software improvements, and fixes. Our team was able to fulfill an astounding 117 FormZ requests throughout the year. Thank you to everyone who reached out to us with suggestions in 2025!
As a refresher, "FormZ" (pronounced "form-zee") is what TXdocs calls our proprietary software to track subscriber requests. For a complete list of the content and software updates included in our latest releases click here or below.

TIPS AND TRICKS

Is there an easier way for less tech-savvy clients to log into their Online Intake portal?
Yes! We recently released an interim update with a simpler Online Intake login process. The link in your client's welcome email now takes them directly into their Online Intake portal, where they can save their own, unique password. No more copying and pasting a temporary password.
Also, if your clients forget their password they can now easily request that a one-time login link be sent to them. This link takes them directly into their portal so they can quickly resume their work.

Is there a way to skip to a certain section when reassembling a document?
Yes! Using the "jump to" feature when reassembling a document lets you jump to a specific section of the document assembly process, rather than having to tab through "next" repeatedly. This feature can be accessed on the Document Assembly tab by selecting "Recently Assembled" and then "Setup Document Reassembly".

DID YOU KNOW?

The shortest U.S. Supreme Court opinion is just 6 words. Chief Justice John Marshall's opinion in United States v. Barker simply said "The United States never pays costs." The longest U.S. Supreme Court opinion? Over 500 pages. This was Justice Blackmun's Roe v. Wade appendix.
